The Challenges Facing the District
As our older adult population grows in the District, the demand for quality, safe, skilled nursing is accelerating. According to the DC Office of Planning, there are more than 100,000 DC residents over the age of 60. The District isn’t supporting long-term care facilities with sufficient funding to pay for nurses and quality care. We need to increase reimbursement rates now. When neighborhood facilities are underfunded, the system crumbles. Patients are trapped in hospital gridlock, caregiving livelihoods collapse, and DC’s vulnerable seniors are stripped from their homes and displaced far from their communities.

DC Seniors for Quality Health Care brings providers, neighbors, and policymakers together to address the funding challenges facing our long-term care facilities in DC, ensuring our city's care infrastructure is fully funded for many years to come.
Closing the Funding Deficit
Advocating for increased funding to bridge the current gap between Medicaid payments and the real-world cost of round-the-clock care.
Strengthening Workforce Security
Supporting initiatives that stabilize over 2,600 careers in nursing facilities right here in the District, ensuring competitive wages and sustainable career paths for frontline healthcare workers.

Keeping Seniors Connected to Care
Protecting vulnerable seniors from the realities of preventable facility closures. Without these facilities, seniors would be pushed back into overflowing emergency rooms, cut off from their healthcare, and removed from their communities and families.
